GREs and Google
When I took the GREs it reminded me of something I was told when I worked at Google: Larry and Sergey used to hire based on a formula using the SATs and GPAs. They considered the SAT an applicant's potential, and their GPA as their ability to deliver on that potential. They plotted this out according to a formula and used it in their hiring decision. They stopped this a while ago though as it turned out that there is very little correlation between these metrics and actual job performance.
